Led by Dr. Alexander Lapa, our experienced team is dedicated to providing care and support to our patients, ensuring they receive expert diagnoses and sustainable solutions for their health challenges. In this article from Nadcell Clinic, we will explore the critical role of Vitamin B12 in pregnancy and child development, shedding light on the importance of this essential nutrient and how Nadcell Clinic can help.

Understanding Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in various bodily functions. It’s essential for maintaining a healthy nervous system, forming red blood cells, and aiding in DNA synthesis. This vital nutrient is required for individuals of all ages, but its significance becomes even more pronounced during pregnancy and early childhood development.

Why Vitamin B12 Matters in Pregnancy

During pregnancy, a woman’s body undergoes significant changes to support the growth and development of the fetus. Vitamin B12 is indispensable during this period for several reasons:

Fetal Development: Vitamin B12 is intricately involved in the development of the baby’s nervous system and brain. Adequate B12 intake is essential for preventing neural tube defects and ensuring the proper growth of the baby’s brain and spinal cord.

Red Blood Cell Production: Pregnancy demands an increase in red blood cells to supply oxygen to both the mother and the developing fetus. Vitamin B12 is necessary for the production of healthy red blood cells, helping to prevent anaemia during pregnancy.

Energy Production: Pregnancy can be physically taxing, and B12 plays a vital role in converting food into energy. This ensures that pregnant women can combat fatigue and maintain their energy levels.

Mood and Emotional Well-being: B12 is closely linked to mood regulation. Its deficiency can lead to symptoms of depression and anxiety, making it crucial for the emotional well-being of pregnant women.

DNA Synthesis: B12 is also involved in DNA synthesis, which is critical during pregnancy when cells are rapidly dividing to form the developing baby’s organs and tissues.

The Importance of Vitamin B12 in Child Development

While we’ve discussed the significance of Vitamin B12 during pregnancy, its role extends beyond the prenatal period. After birth, infants rely on their mothers for this essential nutrient, whether through breast milk or formula. Vitamin B12 continues to play a critical role in a child’s development, particularly in the early years. Here are some key aspects of how Vitamin B12 contributes to child development:

Brain Development: The first few years of a child’s life are marked by rapid brain development. Vitamin B12 is crucial for myelination, the process of forming the protective sheath around nerve fibres. This sheath is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system, including cognition, motor skills, and sensory perception.

Growth and Red Blood Cell Formation: As children grow, they need Vitamin B12 for the formation of new red blood cells. These red blood cells transport oxygen to the body’s tissues, ensuring that all organs and systems receive the oxygen they need to function optimally.

Immune System Support: Vitamin B12 also plays a role in supporting the immune system. A healthy immune system is vital for protecting children from infections and illnesses.

Energy Metabolism: Just like in adults, Vitamin B12 helps children convert food into energy. This energy is essential for physical activities, growth, and overall vitality.

Given these critical roles of Vitamin B12 in both pregnancy and child development, it’s evident that ensuring adequate intake of this nutrient is essential for the health and well-being of both expectant mothers and their children.

From Fatigue to Vitality: How Vitamin C Drips Can Transform Your Life

Natural Vitamin C Rich foods

In today’s fast-paced and demanding world, where the demands of work, family, and personal responsibilities often pull us in multiple directions, it’s all too common to find ourselves locked in a daily battle against chronic fatigue and persistently low energy levels. The demands of modern life, stress, and various health factors can take a toll on our vitality. However, there’s a revitalising solution that can help you regain your energy and zest for life: Vitamin C Drips. In this article, we’ll explore how Nadcell Clinic, a pioneering NAD treatment centre led by the esteemed Dr. Alexander Lapa, can help transform your life by offering Vitamin C Drips as a powerful tool for combating fatigue and boosting vitality.

Understanding the Significance of Vitamin C

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in several essential bodily functions. It is renowned for its immune-boosting properties and its ability to support overall health. While it is found in many fruits and vegetables, sometimes dietary sources alone are insufficient to meet the body’s demands, especially in individuals with specific health conditions or high levels of stress.

The Importance of Vitamin C in Combatting Fatigue

Energy Production: Vitamin C is an essential component in the body’s production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the primary source of cellular energy. A deficiency in Vitamin C can lead to reduced energy levels and increased fatigue.

Immune Support: A robust immune system is essential for maintaining overall health and vitality. Vitamin C is known for its immune-boosting properties, helping the body ward off illnesses that can drain your energy.

Stress Reduction: Stress can deplete the body of essential nutrients, including Vitamin C. Supplementing with Vitamin C can help reduce the physical and mental effects of stress, promoting a sense of well-being.

Collagen Production: Vitamin C is crucial for the synthesis of collagen, a protein that supports the health of skin, joints, and connective tissues. When collagen levels are optimal, you’re more likely to feel energetic and youthful.

Natural sources of vitamin b12

Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a crucial nutrient that plays a vital role in maintaining our overall health and well-being. Unfortunately, many people around the world suffer from vitamin B12 deficiency without even realising it. In this article, we will delve into the symptoms, causes, and consequences of vitamin B12 deficiency and explore how Nadcell Clinic, a leading NAD treatment centre in Scotland, can offer assistance and solutions.

Understanding Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is an essential water-soluble vitamin that our body requires for various functions, including the formation of red blood cells, nerve function, DNA synthesis, and the metabolism of fatty acids and amino acids. It’s primarily found in animal-based foods such as meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Therefore, individuals following a strict vegan or vegetarian diet are at a higher risk of developing a B12 deficiency.

Symptoms of Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Vitamin B12 deficiency can manifest in a wide range of symptoms, many of which can overlap with other health conditions. Recognising these signs early is crucial for timely intervention and treatment. Some common symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include:

Fatigue and Weakness: One of the most prevalent signs is persistent fatigue and weakness, often accompanied by a lack of energy.

Anaemia: B12 deficiency can lead to a type of anaemia known as megaloblastic anaemia, which results in fatigue, pale skin, and shortness of breath.

Neurological Symptoms: Individuals may experience neurological symptoms such as numbness or tingling in the hands and feet, difficulty walking, balance problems, and memory issues.

Mood Changes: B12 deficiency can affect mood, leading to symptoms of depression, anxiety, and irritability.

Digestive Issues: Some people with B12 deficiency may experience digestive problems like diarrhoea or constipation.

Glossitis and Mouth Ulcers: Inflamed and swollen tongue, as well as mouth ulcers, can also be indicative of vitamin B12 deficiency.

Vision Changes: Blurred or disturbed vision can occur in severe cases.

Causes of Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Understanding the underlying causes of vitamin B12 deficiency is essential for effective management. Several factors can contribute to this deficiency:

Dietary Choices: A lack of B12-rich foods in one’s diet, especially for vegans and vegetarians, can lead to deficiency.

Malabsorption: Conditions that affect the absorption of B12 in the gastrointestinal tract, such as pernicious anaemia or celiac disease, can cause deficiency.

Medications: Certain medications, like proton pump inhibitors and metformin, can interfere with B12 absorption.

Age: As people age, their ability to absorb B12 from food decreases, making the elderly more susceptible to deficiency.

Gastrointestinal Surgery: Some surgical procedures, such as gastric bypass surgery, can reduce the body’s ability to absorb B12.

Understanding Depression: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options

Depressed Woman

Depression is a silent epidemic that affects millions of people worldwide, transcending age, gender, and cultural boundaries. It is a complex mental health condition that impacts every aspect of an individual’s life. In this comprehensive blog, we will delve deep into the intricacies of depression, exploring its causes, symptoms, and the innovative treatment options offered at Nadcell Clinic, particularly Dr. Lapa’s pioneering approach utilising NAD+ Therapy.

The Multifaceted Nature of Depression

Depression is far from a one-size-fits-all condition. It encompasses a spectrum of experiences, from fleeting sadness to severe, debilitating forms of clinical depression. To understand depression fully, we must recognise the various manifestations it can take:

Normal Sadness: Occasional feelings of sadness are a natural part of the human experience, often triggered by life’s challenges, disappointments, or losses. These emotions typically resolve with time and support.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): MDD is characterised by persistent and pervasive feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest or pleasure in previously enjoyed activities. It often disrupts daily functioning and can lead to physical symptoms like changes in sleep patterns and appetite.

Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD): Also known as dysthymia, PDD is a chronic form of depression that persists for at least two years. It may have fewer severe symptoms than MDD but can lead to prolonged suffering.

Bipolar Disorder: This mood disorder involves alternating periods of depression and mania (elevated mood). Individuals with bipolar disorder experience extreme mood swings, making it challenging to maintain emotional stability.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): SAD is a type of depression that occurs seasonally, often in the fall and winter months when there is less natural sunlight. It is characterised by symptoms like fatigue, oversleeping, and weight gain.

Deal with depression

The Complex Causes of Depression

Depression is not a result of a single cause but rather a complex interplay of various factors, including:

Biological Factors: Imbalances in neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and norepinephrine, can influence mood regulation. Additionally, genetic predisposition can contribute to an individual’s vulnerability to depression.

Psychological Factors: Negative thought patterns, unresolved trauma, or low self-esteem can increase the risk of depression. Psychological stressors, such as chronic stress or major life events, can also trigger or exacerbate depressive episodes.

Environmental Factors: Adverse childhood experiences, a lack of social support, or exposure to violence and abuse can contribute to the development of depression. Socioeconomic factors may also play a role.

Medical Conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as chronic illnesses or hormonal imbalances, can lead to depression or exacerbate existing symptoms.

Medications and Substance Abuse: Some medications, as well as substance abuse, can lead to depressive symptoms as a side effect or withdrawal symptom.

Recognising Depression Symptoms

Depression manifests through a myriad of emotional, physical, and cognitive symptoms. Recognising these signs is essential for early intervention and effective treatment. Common symptoms include:

Persistent Sadness: An overwhelming feeling of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness that persists for weeks or months.

Loss of Interest: A diminished interest or pleasure in activities that were once enjoyable.

Changes in Sleep Patterns: Insomnia or excessive sleep, often accompanied by fatigue and a lack of energy.

Appetite Changes: Significant weight loss or gain due to changes in appetite.

Irritability: Increased irritability, restlessness, or agitation.

Difficulty Concentrating: Trouble focusing, making decisions, or remembering details.

Physical Symptoms: Unexplained physical ailments, such as headaches or digestive issues, without a clear medical cause.

Understanding the Complexities of Anxiety: Causes and Triggers

Suffering anxiety

Anxiety, a common and often debilitating mental health condition, affects millions of people worldwide. It transcends age, gender, and cultural boundaries, making it a universal human experience. While anxiety is a normal reaction to stress and challenging situations, it can become a complex and chronic issue for some individuals. This blog will delve into the intricacies of anxiety, exploring its causes, triggers, and the innovative treatments offered at Nadcell Clinic, particularly NAD+ Therapy, to help alleviate its symptoms.

The Spectrum of Anxiety

Anxiety is not a one-size-fits-all condition; rather, it exists on a spectrum, ranging from occasional worry to severe, chronic anxiety disorders. Understanding this spectrum is crucial to comprehending the diverse ways anxiety can manifest and the factors that contribute to its development.

Normal Anxiety: Occasional anxiety is a natural response to stressors, such as exams, job interviews, or life changes. It serves as a built-in alarm system that keeps us alert and focused in challenging situations.

Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD): GAD is characterised by excessive and persistent worry about everyday matters. Individuals with GAD often find it challenging to control their anxiety, leading to physical symptoms such as restlessness, muscle tension, and difficulty concentrating.

Social Anxiety Disorder: Social anxiety is an intense fear of social situations, often accompanied by a profound fear of judgment or embarrassment. It can hinder an individual’s ability to engage in social activities and impact their self-esteem.

Panic Disorder: Panic disorder involves recurring and unexpected panic attacks, which are intense episodes of fear or discomfort. These attacks can lead to avoidance behaviours as individuals fear experiencing another episode.

Phobias: Specific phobias are irrational fears of certain objects or situations, such as heights, spiders, or flying. These fears can lead to avoidance behaviours and significant distress.

Causes of Anxiety

The origins of anxiety are multifaceted and can vary from person to person. They often result from a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. Some of the common causes include:

Genetics: A family history of anxiety disorders can increase one’s susceptibility to anxiety. Specific genetic factors can contribute to the development of anxiety disorders.

Brain Chemistry: Imbalances in brain chemicals, such as serotonin and dopamine, play a role in anxiety. These neurotransmitters regulate mood and emotions, and their dysregulation can lead to anxiety symptoms.

Trauma and Stress: Traumatic experiences, such as abuse, accidents, or significant life changes, can trigger anxiety disorders. Chronic stress can also contribute to the development of anxiety.

Personality Factors: Certain personality traits, such as perfectionism or a tendency to be pessimistic, can increase the risk of developing anxiety.

Medical Conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as heart disease, thyroid disorders, or chronic pain, can be associated with anxiety symptoms.

Mental Health

Anxiety Triggers

Triggers are specific situations, events, or thoughts that provoke anxiety symptoms. Identifying and understanding these triggers is essential for managing anxiety effectively. Common anxiety triggers include:

Stressful Life Events: Major life changes, such as divorce, job loss, or the death of a loved one, can trigger or exacerbate anxiety symptoms.

Health Issues: For some individuals, concerns about health or medical conditions can lead to health anxiety or hypochondria.

Social Situations: Social gatherings, public speaking, or interactions with authority figures can trigger social anxiety in those susceptible to it.

Traumatic Memories: Traumatic memories or past experiences can resurface and cause significant distress, leading to anxiety symptoms.

Phobias: Exposure to the object or situation that triggers a specific phobia can lead to extreme anxiety.

NAD+ Therapy for Anxiety Reduction

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found naturally in our cells, playing a crucial role in various cellular processes, including energy production and DNA repair. Recent research suggests that NAD+ may also have a positive impact on mental health, including anxiety reduction.

Cellular Repair: NAD+ therapy supports DNA repair and cellular regeneration, which may help reduce the effects of chronic stress and anxiety on the body.

Stress Reduction: NAD+ therapy can enhance the body’s ability to manage stress by supporting the stress response system. This may lead to improved resilience in the face of anxiety triggers.

Personalised Treatment: At Nadcell Clinic, NAD+ Therapy is tailored to each individual’s unique needs and circumstances. Our team of medical professionals assesses the patient’s condition and develops a personalised treatment plan to target anxiety symptoms effectively.

The Complexities of Anxiety

The IV Nutrient Infusion Process

IV nutrient infusions are administered intravenously, which means they are delivered directly into the bloodstream. This method bypasses the digestive system, ensuring rapid absorption and allowing nutrients to reach cells and tissues more efficiently.

The process typically involves several key steps:

Assessment: Before receiving an IV nutrient infusion, individuals undergo a thorough assessment to determine their specific nutritional needs and health goals. This assessment helps customise the infusion to address individual requirements.

Preparation: The selected nutrients are prepared in a sterile, controlled environment to ensure safety and accuracy.

Administration: A healthcare professional inserts a small IV catheter into a vein, usually in the arm. The nutrient solution is then slowly administered into the bloodstream.

Monitoring: While receiving the infusion, individuals are closely monitored to ensure comfort and safety.

Duration: The duration of an IV nutrient infusion can vary depending on the specific formulation and individual needs. Typically, sessions last anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours.

How IV Nutrient Infusions Support Wellness

The science behind IV nutrient infusions lies in their ability to provide the body with a concentrated dose of essential nutrients, bypassing the digestive system. This direct delivery offers several wellness benefits:

Enhanced Absorption: By entering the bloodstream directly, nutrients are absorbed more efficiently, ensuring they reach cells and tissues in optimal concentrations.

Rapid Results: IV nutrient infusions can provide rapid relief from symptoms associated with nutrient deficiencies, dehydration, or specific health concerns.

Customisation: Infusions can be tailored to address individual needs, whether that involves immune support, hydration, energy enhancement, or detoxification.

Targeted Wellness: IV nutrient infusions can be used to address specific health goals, such as boosting the immune system, enhancing athletic performance, or promoting skin health.

The Role of Key Nutrients

Different IV nutrient formulations contain a variety of essential nutrients, each serving a unique purpose in promoting wellness:

Vitamin C: Known for its powerful antioxidant properties, vitamin C supports the immune system, collagen production, and overall vitality.

The Benefits of IV Nutrient Infusions

The science of IV nutrient infusions aligns with their numerous wellness benefits:

Improved Immune Function: Nutrient-rich infusions can bolster the immune system, helping the body fend off illnesses and infections.

Enhanced Energy Levels: IV infusions containing B vitamins and other energy-boosting nutrients can combat fatigue and increase overall vitality.

Rehydration: Infusions can rapidly replenish fluid and electrolytes, making them a valuable tool in addressing dehydration.

Mental Clarity: Certain infusions, such as those containing glutathione and amino acids, can enhance mental clarity and focus.

Detoxification: IV nutrient infusions support the body’s natural detoxification processes, aiding in the removal of toxins and waste products.

NAD+ Therapy: A Game-Changer for Wellness

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a coenzyme present in all living cells, crucial for various cellular functions, including energy production and DNA repair. Recent research suggests that NAD+ Therapy may offer substantial wellness benefits.

Staying Sober After Rehab: Tips for Long-Term Recovery

Going through drug rehab

Completing a drug rehabilitation program is a significant achievement and a crucial step toward a healthier, drug-free life. At Nadcell Clinic in Glasgow, under the guidance of Dr. Lapa and our dedicated team, you’ve taken a courageous step towards recovery. However, the journey doesn’t end here; staying sober after rehab is a continuous process that requires commitment and effort. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll provide you with valuable tips and strategies to help you navigate the challenges of long-term recovery successfully.

Understanding Long-Term Recovery

Recovery from addiction is often described as a lifelong journey, and it’s essential to understand that sobriety is a daily commitment. To stay on the path of long-term recovery, you need to develop a mindset that embraces change and growth.

Set Realistic Expectations

Recovery is not a linear process, and there may be setbacks along the way. It’s crucial to set realistic expectations for yourself and understand that occasional cravings or relapses do not define your journey. What matters is your commitment to getting back on track and learning from your experiences.

Build a Support System

One of the most critical elements of staying sober is having a strong support system. Surround yourself with friends and family members who understand your journey and can offer emotional support. Consider attending support group meetings or therapy sessions to connect with others who are also in recovery.

Relapse Prevention Strategies

Preventing relapse is a significant focus of long-term recovery. Here are some strategies to help you stay on track:

Identify Triggers

Recognise the people, places, and situations that trigger cravings or tempt you to use drugs. By identifying these triggers, you can develop strategies to avoid or cope with them effectively.

Develop Coping Skills

Learn healthy coping mechanisms to deal with stress, anxiety, and negative emotions. These skills can include mindfulness, deep breathing exercises, meditation, or engaging in hobbies and activities that bring you joy.

Create a Relapse Prevention Plan

Work with your therapist or counsellor to create a relapse prevention plan. This plan should include specific steps to take if you feel the urge to use drugs, such as reaching out to your support network or seeking professional help.

Prioritising Self-Care

Taking care of your physical and mental health is essential in long-term recovery. When you feel your best, you are better equipped to resist the temptation of drugs.

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Eating a balanced diet, getting regular exercise, and getting enough sleep can have a profound impact on your overall well-being. These habits can help regulate your mood and reduce the risk of relapse.

Address Underlying Mental Health Issues

Many individuals with addiction also struggle with co-occurring mental health disorders. Seek treatment and support for any underlying conditions, as they can contribute to substance use.

Building a Meaningful Life in Recovery

Long-term recovery is not just about abstaining from drugs; it’s also about creating a fulfilling and purposeful life.

Set Goals and Prioritise Them

Setting and achieving goals can give you a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Start with small, achievable goals and gradually work your way up to more significant milestones.

Find Meaningful Activities

Engage in activities and hobbies that bring joy and fulfilment into your life. This could be anything from volunteering, pursuing a new career, or rediscovering old passions.

Staying Accountable

Accountability plays a pivotal role in maintaining sobriety post-rehabilitation. To sustain accountability, it’s crucial to establish regular check-ins with a therapist or counsellor, ensuring ongoing guidance and a safe space for addressing challenges. Additionally, maintaining open and honest communication with your support network, including friends and family, fosters a sense of responsibility and solidarity. Sharing your journey, both the highs and lows, not only keeps you accountable but also provides you with valuable insights, encouragement, and constructive feedback. In this collaborative effort, accountability becomes a powerful tool to help you stay on the path of long-term recovery.:

Regular Check-Ins

Continue to attend therapy or counselling sessions, even after rehab. Regular check-ins with a mental health professional can help you stay on track and address any challenges that arise.

Stay Honest and Open

Be open and honest with your support network about your struggles and successes. Sharing your journey with others can provide you with valuable feedback and encouragement.

The Rewarding Journey of Rehabilitation

Staying sober after rehab is a challenging but rewarding journey. It’s important to remember that you are not alone in this process. Nadcell Clinic, under the guidance of Dr. Lapa, is here to support you every step of the way. By setting realistic expectations, implementing relapse prevention strategies, prioritising self-care, building a meaningful life, and staying accountable, you can increase your chances of long-term recovery success.

Remember that recovery is a continuous process, and it’s okay to seek help and make adjustments as needed. Your commitment to a drug-free life is worth the effort, and with the right support and strategies, you can achieve and maintain long-term sobriety. We believe in your strength and resilience, and we are here to help you achieve the brighter, healthier future you deserve.

Common Addictions Throughout Scotland and the UK

UK Addictions

Addiction is a widespread and complex issue that affects individuals and communities across the United Kingdom. Nadcell Clinic, a Glasgow-based private medical clinic specialising in helping individuals overcome drug and alcohol addiction, recognises the importance of addressing these challenges. In this blog, we will explore some of the most common addictions throughout the UK, including alcohol, heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, stimulants, and prescription medications. By understanding the prevalence and unique characteristics of each addiction, we aim to shed light on the complexities of addiction and emphasise the importance of seeking help when needed.

Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol addiction, or alcoholism, is one of the most prevalent and destructive forms of addiction in the UK. It affects individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Many people start consuming alcohol socially but gradually develop a dependence on it. The physical and psychological consequences of alcoholism can be severe, including liver disease, mental health issues, and strained relationships.

Treatment for alcohol addiction often involves a combination of therapy, support groups, and medical interventions to manage withdrawal symptoms. Nadcell Clinic offers comprehensive programs to help individuals overcome alcohol addiction and regain control of their lives.

Heroin Addiction

Heroin addiction is a major concern in the UK, particularly in urban areas. The rise in opioid-related deaths has highlighted the urgent need for effective intervention and treatment options. Heroin addiction can lead to devastating health consequences, such as overdose, infectious diseases, and social isolation.

Nadcell Clinic provides specialised treatment for heroin addiction, TES therapy, Vibroacoustic therapy, NAD+ and other vitamin and mineral infusions and counselling services, aimed at helping individuals break free from the cycle of addiction.

Cocaine and Crack Cocaine Addiction

Cocaine, including its potent derivative crack cocaine, is a highly addictive stimulant drug. Cocaine addiction is prevalent in many parts of the UK, with users seeking the euphoric high it provides. However, the frequent use of cocaine can lead to a range of health issues, including cardiovascular problems, anxiety, insomnia and paranoia.

Nadcell Clinic’s experienced staff understands the unique challenges of cocaine addiction and offers tailored treatment plans to address both the physical and psychological aspects of this addiction.

Marijuana or Cannabis Addiction

While marijuana is often considered less harmful than other substances, some individuals in the UK develop an addiction to it. Marijuana addiction can interfere with daily life, causing issues at work, school, or home. Treatment for marijuana addiction may involve counselling and behavioural therapies to address dependence and underlying factors.

Stimulant Addiction

Stimulant drugs, such as amphetamines and methamphetamines, are used recreationally by some individuals in the UK. These substances can lead to addiction, resulting in physical and psychological health problems. Treatment for stimulant addiction may involve detoxification, therapy, and relapse prevention strategies.

Prescription Medication Addiction

Prescription medication addiction is a growing concern in the UK. Opioids, benzodiazepines, and other prescription drugs can be highly addictive when misused or taken without medical supervision. Nadcell Clinic offers specialised programs to help individuals safely taper off prescription medications and manage withdrawal symptoms.

Medical Weight Loss: Ozempic

Ozempic medical weight loss Glasgow

Losing weight can be extremely difficult for anyone. There are all kinds of weird and wonderful – yet not effective – so-called weight-busting remedies and tonics on the market. There are also tons of supplements or diets and clubs for weight loss.

As an expert medical centre in Glasgow, we know that losing weight (voluntarily) only happens through calorie control, exercise and medications. Or a combination of the first two. However, we do know that restricted and controlled medications do work. And there are now a few on the market available on prescription from specialist medical practitioners, including at Nadcell.

Ozempic Now Approved For Weight Loss Use

Medical weight loss has seen a significant transformation in recent months with the introduction of Ozempic, also known as Semaglutide or Wegovy. It has been in the news a lot recently as it has now been approved for weight loss by the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Ozempic is a weekly injection originally intended for individuals with Type 2 diabetes. It falls under the category of a GLP-1 analogue medication (medications to treat diabetes). The drug imitates a naturally occurring chemical that our bodies produce to control our blood sugar levels and appetite

Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a chemical produced by our gut in response to food intake. It performs many functions, but four actions make it important in weight loss.

Regulating Appetite

GLP-1 travels to our brain and signals a reduction in appetite. It’s how our brains know we’re full when we’ve eaten.

Managing Glucose

In the liver, GLP-1 reduces the amount of glucose released and therefore controls blood sugar levels.

Controlling Digestion

GLP-1 slows down stomach emptying, keeping food in the stomach for longer, which means, of course, reducing the frequency of when we feel we need to eat.

Producing Insulin

GLP-1 increases the amount of insulin produced and released, normally activated when blood sugar levels are high.

Ozempic Dosage

Ozempic is usually prescribed at two doses: 0.5mg and 1mg. In some clinical trials, the original dosage was 0.25mg per week which was then increased to 0.5mg after 4 weeks. The scientists used this increasing method to accustom the body to the drug. If the blood sugar levels remain high even after a considerable duration, the dose may be increased to 1mg.

However, keep in mind that the effects of Ozempic take time to kick in. It takes approximately 5 weeks for the drug to enter your system fully, so it takes some time for the initial benefits of the drug to kick-in and the main effect isn’t felt for 12-24 weeks. Patients should be aware of this time period and not increase the dosage any further, purely because they don’t feel it is working. It’s important to wait for noticeable effects before increasing the dosage any further.

How Does Ozempic Compare With Other Weight Loss Treatments?

There are several GLP-1 therapies available today such as Trulicity (Dulaglutide), Bydureon (Exenatide Extended Release) and daily versions like Liraglutide and Byetta. However, Ozempic stands out due to its efficacy. Studies have shown that Ozempic lowers HbA1C – which is the amount of glucose attached to haemoglobin in blood – by around 1.5-1.6% compared to placebo, proving incredibly effective. Good news for diabetics and people wanting to lose weight.

In comparison with other GLP-1 therapies like Bydureon or insulin glargine, Ozempic was found to be superior in reducing HbA1C. Trulicity, one of the most effective GLP-1 drugs, came close to Ozempic in effectiveness, but Ozempic still showed superior results.

Ozempic is notably effective at promoting weight loss, with studies showing a weight loss of between 3.5kg – 6.5kg favouring Ozempic. This makes it the most effective drug in the GLP-1 category for weight reduction.

Are there any side effects with Ozempic?

Like all medications, Ozempic can have its potential side effects which include nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain and decreased appetite. These symptoms typically subside after about 8 to 12 weeks. If any discomfort persists, it’s advised to maintain the initial dose until the symptoms have settled.

Certain, more serious, side effects are rare, such as inflammation of the pancreas, but possible. Low blood sugar and allergic reactions have also been known to occur.

Ozempic is a new medical weight loss treatment for individuals, borne out of diabetes research. Moreover, it can reduce the likelihood of further cardiovascular problems in people with cardiovascular risk factors by around 25%.

Weight Loss Clinic in Glasgow

Ozempic allows healthcare and well-being professionals, such as Nadcell Clinic, to provide help to people who would like to lose weight and where a medical intervention would increase the likelihood of success. The benefits of weight loss, blood sugar reduction and potential reduction in cardiovascular events mean that we absolutely promote its use and can consult on its treatment.
